Celebrating DHI – two decades of vital support

We joined 150 people from the Bath and Bristol regions at the Widcombe Social club to celebrate 20 years of the charity Developing Health & Independence (DHI). The event took place on Thursday 7th November 2019 and marked two decades of delivering vital support services for marginalised and disadvantaged people.

Launched in Bath in 1999, DHI’s work has a focus on supported housing, drug treatment and social prescribing. The event is part of their Vision Project which explores ways to end social exclusion by ensuring that everyone has their basic needs met and can thrive by contributing to the richness and wellbeing of their community. This resonates deeply with the work we do at Somer Valley Education Trust.

The Trust and DHI have been collaboratively working since 2017. DHI refer their members to the METS programme to help them build confidence and well-being as they work towards independent living and gaining paid employment. DHI have also commissioned the Trust to make the DHI podcast which is a key part of the Vision Project.

Dom says, “I love what DHI do. It’s not just that they provide essential services that support people most in need, it’s the way they go about it. In making the podcasts I have met some amazing people who have remarkable stories to tell.”

Guests at the celebration were treated to music performances by clients and staff.

“The stage acts really brought alive the work of DHI which added a fun dimension to the celebration. One young person held the room spell bound with his rap. I’m delighted to say that he is now training with us on our Street to Studio project we have just launched in Bath.”
