Arts Awards at Somer Valley Education Trust

We always encourage students to be creative in the work that they do, and now we can offer certified qualifications to reward that creative endeavours.

Somer Valley Education Trust is now delivering Arts Awards qualifications to trainees aged 25 and under. Arts Awards are designed to encourage individuals to grow as artists, as well as encouraging leadership skills. Students and young people who register for the award will work with our Arts Award Adviser and trainer, Maggie Harding. We work to develop students’ creativity in media and communications, whilst aligning this development with the Arts Awards framework.

Bronze Arts Award focusses on arts participation and experiencing arts events.
Silver Arts Award takes the student on a journey into the professional arts world, gaining experience and knowledge to help progress into further education and employment.

Everyone involved will not only nurture their creativity, but they will learn task management, how to work effectively as part of a team, leadership skills, peer support as well as practical media skills. While developing important life skills, trainees build their confidence, self-esteem, and all-round wellbeing.

Our CEO Dom Chambers explained: “It has always been the ambition of this charity to offer certificated qualifications that evidence the skills, experience and work of our trainees. We feel that Arts Awards are the best way of recognising achievements of all abilities. Having gone to Art College myself I could not be more pleased that we are now a registered Arts Award Centre delivering Bronze and Silver Arts Awards. These stimulate young people’s creative and technical flare helping with their mental wellbeing, education and progression into employment and a life of their choosing.”

Participation in the Arts Awards is entirely voluntary and is not a requirement for our METS programme of training. This is for those who want a certified recognition of the skills and experience they achieve, and add strength to a CV.
